Baby Sign Language Courses Started In Ice Age - Thanks Diego!

You may find this tough to believe, but i hadn't seen my first glimpse of Ice Age The Movie until just before Christmas 2007! There is a scene which represents the need for baby sign language courses, graphically! As most of you will have seen the movie already i'll come to that in a minute.

You'll find it funny that I had some difficulties getting a copy on DVD. Here's why: Firstly i wasn't sure which part I or II my scene was in but thanks to some investigative work on imdb.com I knew to look for I. The trailers and photos were tantalizing! I had a really good idea for my hobby of sign language courses and determined to watch the movie! It was almost 5pm as I headed to the local library in Dulwich to stake my rental copy. On arrival the title did not jump off the shelf in to my hands! There was a friendly librarian Wendy who patiently went through the borough's DVD database. The conversation went along these lines:

Chris: "Have you got Ice Age The Movie, please?" (slightly edgy that there wasn't a copy on the shelves)

Wendy: " Let me have a look for you" (Sitting at desk behind terminal)

Chris: "Great" (some hope!)

After a pause whilst Wendy researches my request

Wendy: " We did have copies"

Chris: "Oh?"

Wendy: " Yes, but according to the record they've been taken out, let's see May 2004, April 2005 - i think they must have gone to a good home! (librarian speak for stolen)
And the remaining five have been removed from service through being over played!"

Chris: " So it's a popular movie then? " (racing pulse, gotta get my hands on that movie!)

Wendy: "We can buy you a copy and that would be £2.00 we'd charge you ($5) for that service" (It's a library, things take forever)
Chris: " I need the movie soon, i think i'll leave it. I really appreciate you help." (Feeling desperate that i couldn't, watch it that night! )

The next day i was delighted to find a rental shop with a copy, i joined on the spot and asked the assistant if it was good. Her look said it all. She was dumbed founded that i hadn't watched it yet. That expression came across even before she'd said "You haven't seen it?"

So i got my wish of sharing my point of view about this scene. It's were Diego, Manfred and Sid are trying to stop Junior from screaming.

Diego: What does it want?" (As junior howls like crazy)

Manfred: " Maybe it's something to do with that thing around it's waist. It's got to eat so where does food go afterwards? Sid your in charge of finding out"

Sid: "Why me?"

Manfred: " Because your the smallest most insignificant creature here"

It's tough being Sid, but he gets to laugh as the nappy ends up on Manfred's head - fortunately it's not full of £%££$

Diego wants to know what Junior is screaming about. Does this seem familiar to you? If you have had the joy of bringing up a kid or several then you'll be aware of the heroes predicament! If you are planning a family then you should consider this aspect of parenting. The better prepared you are when baby begins gesticulating and showing awareness of you the better.

So the characters go through the process of elimination that parents who don't use baby sign language courses do on a regular basis. Junior didn't need a nappy change on that occasion, he was hungry. I learned a lot from watching Ice Age. Not only that the heroes need a hand understanding human babies. But also the messages being carried across subliminally about global warming.  That's what part II is about. Thanks Scrat! I'm sure kids with a bit of help could learn from cartoons. In the same way parents with a bit of help from their babies could learn to get in to that baby sign language course!
